Event description

Description

Neil Armstrong once said, “Research is creating new knowledge”, and developing new knowledge can be as easy as asking yourself the right questions. At Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, simply asking “how are we doing as a profession” and “how can we enhance ourselves” turned into becoming the model demonstration site to test the reliability, validity, sensitivity and feasibility of the Leisure Competence Measure (LCM) for use in a tertiary mental health care setting.

The purpose of this presentation is to share our journey as Recreation Therapist through a career defining research project and encourage other professions to become involved in research and enhance quality of care with evidence-based practice.

With over 30 years combined professional experience, Michelle Durnford, Cindy Marshall and Liz Everett have worked in many areas across the Recreation Therapy field. Their passion is client centered care within the mental health population with both inpatient and outpatient treatment. As leaders in their field, they are among a group of Recreation Therapists being recognized for their hard work in one of Waypoint's top research projects. Providing quality care and best practice is a top priority as they successfully balance their professional and personal lives. They strive for providing the best recreation therapy services and standards to their clients, and now sharing with you their journey within research.
