The Radio Revolution - A Virtual Tribute to Margaret Lyons
Event Information
About this Event
Join us on Thursday, January 28th, 2021 at 19:00 ET for a virtual tribute to the legend that is Margaret Lyons – fierce advocate of public broadcasting, champion of new ideas, producer, program director, the first Vice-President of CBC Radio: the woman who led the Radio Revolution and saved public radio.
Peter Herrndorf, former General Manager of CBC Radio and Television, said of Margaret Lyons, “She was this tiny pile driver, who became the single most important and influential person in CBC Radio in the last 60 years.”
Born Keiko Inouye and interned in World War II, she led an extraordinary life that wound through almost 100 years of our country’s history. Her work and extraordinary leadership through the 1960s, 70s, and 80s gave CBC Radio the foundations for its success today. Margaret Lyons died in October 2019.
Celebrate Margaret with an hour-long virtual tribute hosted by CBC Radio’s Michael Enright, featuring insights from former CBC colleagues: Peter Herrndorf, Pamela Wallin, Mark Starowicz, and many others, plus the songs of Nancy White.
