The Redevelopment of 1495 Heron Road: A Virtual Public Workshop
Event Information
About this event
Summary: Canada Lands Company is inviting members of the public to take part in a virtual workshop to solicit input on how to redevelop the former Federal Study Centre, located at 1495 Heron Road
Main Description: On February 10, 2022, Canada Lands Company will be inviting members of the public to take part in a virtual workshop to solicit input on how the former Federal Study Centre, located at 1495 Heron Road, can be reimagined as a mixed-use community that connects history with the future, surrounding neighbourhoods with one another, and greenspace with urban living.
During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to share your comments on four options for how to integrate housing, retail, open space, and amenities into this site, to create a vibrant mixed-use community.
The workshop will start with a presentation that will be delivered in English. A live interpreter will translate to French, and all materials will be bilingual. Small group discussions will be held in both French and English. We also invite questions in the language of your choice (FRA and ENG).
Background or Additional Information: The 1495 Heron Road (18 acres/7.3-hectares) site, formerly owned by Public Services and Procurement Canada, consists of 12 buildings, which account for almost 219,000 square feet.
The property is in Alta Vista Ward (Guildwood Estates neighbourhood) and is close to amenities, transit, parkland, and greenspace areas. The site is bound to the south by Heron Road, to the west by St. Patrick High School, and to the east by single-family residential dwellings. Its exterior includes ample surface parking spaces and two tennis courts.
The site was originally designed and developed by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame in the 1960s, and then purchased by the Government of Canada in 1973 to be used as the Federal Study Centre. Canada Lands Company, who purposed the site in 2020, will work with the community to create a master plan to guide how it will be redeveloped.
