This workshop is based on the Four Shields work of Steven Foster and Meredith Little (School of Lost Borders) alongside elements of pre-Hellenic myth and Medicine Wheel teachings. The Rites of Fall are about Initiation.
The Fall is about learning to navigate darkness, solitude, inner depths, the subconscious, memory, emotion, origin and abandonment. In this season, Innocence prepares for the necessary process of becoming Wisdom.
Successfully growing through the Fall Shield involves learning the lesson of Maturity. We do this through exploring rituals of Severance and Individuation.
The purpose of this workshop is to learn the nature of each stage in the cycle of human initiation, however, we will focus primarily on the Fall Shield and which rituals, ceremonies and developmental tasks can help us move more gracefully from one season to the next.
This workshop will take place in a cozy office setting but participants are encouraged to take time after the workshop to visit the ocean on their own. Suggestions for personal ritual will provide a starting point for your own ceremonial work in your own private time. Your ocean visit will be an opportunity to seek mirroring from nature to determine your next steps.
There will be some time at lunch for self-directed exploration as well as experiential exercises to give you a sense of the work in practice. Please bring a bagged lunch and snacks to sustain you throughout the day.
Women, men and non-binary welcome.
This workshop is groundwork for those considering doing a vision quest in the future. I will be leading vision quests, all genders welcome, in May 2017. None of the workshops in the Rites of the Seasons series are prerequisites; these workshops are each stand-alone events but of course each one flows nicely into the next in the series.
What to bring and other comfort concerns:
- journal and pen
- water bottle and snacks for the day
- a packed lunch
- We will be sitting on the floor but backjacks (floor chairs) and blankets are provided.
