Description

Your story needs you. It's time to dive in.

The Seven-Week Concentrated Writers' Course is your chance to dedicate seven focused weeks to your writing project, your practice, your book goal — or your wish to take this whole "writing thing" more seriously — and dive deeply into your creative process.

Danielle Pope, The Story Midwife, will guide you on this seven-week journey with a community of like-minded writers to boost your practice. By the end of this course, you'll come away with a renewed focus and advancement on your current project, or a solid start on a new one. You'll also have formed an intimate network of workshopping colleagues and accountability buddies who will help to keep you on track as you carry on after the course.

Writers will gather, in person, once a week on Monday evenings for six weeks — with one additional home-work week — in the joint goal of advancing each other's practices and projects. Each session will feature a progressive series of sharing, writing activities, reading, workshopping, prompts and goal setting for each project. Writers will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with Danielle and other attendees, with assignments tailored to help each individual project move forward.

This course is limited to a total of 10 registration spots to maintain an intimate environment.

Workshop evenings will take place in a private Victoria home located near McKenzie and Cedar Hill Cross Road. Address provided upon registration. Weekly meetings begin Monday, January 29 through to March 12, with one home-work week falling on Feb. 12, for people to have additional time to focus on their projects.

*Note: Earlybird tickets are on sale until Jan. 21 for $185. After Jan. 21, regular-priced tickets are $229.

FAQs

What if I can't make it to every one of the Monday nights?

While the course is designed to build upon itself to enhance your writing practice, your progression is up to you. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all sessions for maximum benefit, but at-home work is also available if a week must be missed. Note that we have one planned home-work week midway into the course on Monday, Feb. 12, in respect of the Family Day holiday and to allow people an extra week with their projects.

What are my transportation/parking options?

Free parking is available in a private cul-de-sac near the residence. The location is close to a number of bus routes, and car-pooling may be an option from downtown.

What do I need to bring into the event?

Bring your favourite writing implements, pen, paper or laptop, and anything that brings you creative inspiration, as we will be working through a variety of writing practices at each session. Photocopies of written work may be required for workshopping purposes (advance notice will be given), which participants will be responsible for providing. If copying is not an option, oral reading is also acceptable.

Will there be a break?

Yes, each 2.5-hour session will include a break for enjoying a small snack and beverage, and for connecting with other community members in the course.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Contact Danielle with any questions, at: danielle@thestorymidwife.ca. You can also find her on Facebook and Instagram.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes — you are welcome to gift your ticket to someone else for the course, but please send a note to Danielle in advance of the workshop, or note this in your purchase order.
