Event description

Description

The Unfaithful Servants have quickly gained a reputation as a must-see act. With an exciting approach to traditional Americana, folk, bluegrass and country music, the group serves up explosive instrumentals and compelling story-telling, and draw their audience into an entertaining and memorable musical experience. The credits and resume of The Servants members are impressive, but it is the chemistry of the group and the skill of their individual musicianship that propels their live performance. Sharing vocal harmonies around a single microphone is an integral part of their blend. Their original writing, from electrifying mandolin and fiddle nstrumentals to heartfelt songs, combines well with deftly arranged covers from folk, rock and traditional repertoire. Fronted by singer/songwriter Dylan Stone, the band includes American born mandolin virtuoso Jessie Cobb, who is a founding member of the critically acclaimed bluegrass group The Infamous String Dusters, and with that group he received a Grammy nomination for one of his original compositions. The band also includes Miriam Sonstenes on fiddle. Miriam is a founder of beloved Canadian roots trio The Sweet Lowdown, who have won or been nominated for various awards at the Canadian Folk Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and Vancouver Island Music Awards. Alex Remple on stand-up bass solidifies the group with groove and versatility. Alex also performs and tours Canada and Europe with Canadian group West My Friend .

The Servants are pushing forward the limits of traditional music, and have a strong foundation of experience and talent to boast. Yet it’s the effort they put in together as a group that moves audiences and attracts their fans. The depth and talent of this group are undeniable and the road they travel will be an exciting journey to watch.

Soaring harmonies, catchy original songs, foot-stomping fiddling: Genevieve and the Wild Sundays is an all-female quintet that feature the award-winning songs of Vancouver-Island homesteading, guitar playing mama Genevieve Charbonneau . With songs that run from insightful love ballads to rollicking political hootenannies, the music of the Wild Sundays is rooted in old-time country, incorporating Eastern European folk, Americana, and indie-pop.

Genevieve began crafting tales of love, loss and rural living while homesteading in the Cowichan Valley, in between raising her three sons, harvesting veggies from the garden and hauling firewood to fuel her earthen home. In 2013, longing for vocal harmonies and instrumentation for her songs, she brought together long-time bluegrasser and fellow Balkan Babe Kelly Sherwin, vocalist/percussionist Laura Carleton, and Yiddish Columbia State Orchestra’s mandolin player Chandra Crowe to create the Wild Sundays. Five time North American fiddle champion Ivonne Hernandez joined in July 2016, bringing her virtuosic prowess to the band. This package delivers a powerful and engaging live show, with songs that will stir your heart one moment, make you laugh the next, and wow you with dazzling instrumentation and spitfire lyrics.

PLEASE NOTE: The Upstairs Lounge is a licensed restaurant and bar, doors open at 6 pm for dinner service, the concert starts at 7:30 pm. THIS IS A LISTENING VENUE.
