About this event

Elevate is a community looking to elevate one another, elevate their skills, elevate their community, and elevate their lives to a new level. Through support and collaboration with like-minded people and community initiatives, we will elevate our impact on our local community.

May is Elevate: Joy, featuring three incredible speakers all sharing their journey and their unique and powerful perspectives on JOY.

This is a virtual event using the Zoom platform!

About Janis Irwin


		The Virtual Effect presents "Elevate: Joy" image

Janis Irwin was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta as the representative for Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood on April 16, 2019. Janis serves as the Official Opposition Deputy Whip and the Critic for Status of Women and LGBTQ2S+ Issues.

Prior to serving as an MLA, Janis worked in rural Alberta as a high school teacher in Bawlf and as a vice-principal in Forestburg. She then moved to Edmonton and made it her home, working for Alberta Education as the Senior Manager, Social Studies, and then as the Executive Director for High School Curriculum.

Janis holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Alberta, a master’s degree in education from the University of Calgary, and completed her PhD coursework at the University of Alberta. Over the years she has served as a board member for several nonprofit associations, and has volunteered with many community organizations. Janis loves getting outside, biking, running, and exploring Edmonton’s beautiful river valley.

JACEK Chocolate Couture is the result of combining two things that bring Jacqueline immense joy; chocolate & fashion. Her concept of running a fine chocolate company on a fashion business model is what makes them unique; launching seasonal collections four times a year. The business began from her basement in 2009, and now operates in a commercial chocolate studio in Sherwood Park, AB with a brilliant team of 26 who are equally committed their core mission to spread joy through fine, ethically sourced chocolate. JACEK has a retail boutique in Sherwood Park, a partner location in Canmore, AB and a growing online channel to spread joy across Canada.Jacqueline has been chosen at one of the Top 10 Chocolatiers in North America by Dessert Professional Magazine in NYC (2011), the Don Neil Young Entrepreneur of the Year (2011), Strathcona County Business of the Year (2014), Global Woman of Vision (2015), a recipient of the Leaders award by Business in Edmonton Magazine (2015) & Avenue Edmonton’s Top Chocolatier two years in a row (2016 & 2017). In 2018,2019 & 2021, the JACEK Bean-to Bar collection has won several medals in the International Chocolate Awards for the Americas, and a gold medal in the world’s.
