Event Details

This seminar will cover three distinctive VFX pipelines: Movies, Television Series, and Animated Series. The panel will discuss each pipeline and give you an understanding of when and how each of them work. 

The panel is comprised of several talented people from SpinVFX:

Cesar Dacol Jr. - Creature and Concept Supervisor 

Cesar Dacol joined SpinVFX in 2016 as a Concept Supervisor.

Dacol has been bringing creatures and characters to life for 20 years. He started his career in the makeup effects industry and transitioned to CG in the mid 90s. From designing the hero dinosaur, Gigantasaurus, in Journey to the Center of the Earth to the Werewolves in The Mortal Instruments, this talented artist has carved a path in animated features such as The Wild (Disney), Happy Feet 2(Warner Bros.), and live action features that include, Fantastic Four (20th Century Fox), 300 (Warner Bros.), and The Incredible Hulk (Universal Pictures).

Tim Sibley - FX Supervisor

Tim Sibley joined SPIN VFX in 2006, and has served as the Effects Department Supervisor since 2009.

Tim is a graduate of Ryerson University's Film Program, where the focus on traditional filmmaking fundamentals laid the groundwork for his success in digital post-production work.

After serving in a 3D-Generalist capacity, he honed in on effects as his core focus, where he found a satisfying and challenging balance between artistry and technical skill.

Tim has contributed to over one hundred commercial, film, and television projects, including Game of Thrones SIII, Battle: Los Angeles (2011), Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)and John Wick (2014).

He was also recognized with an Emmy nomination for his work on the Showtime series The Borgias (2012).


Andrew McPhillips - Head of CG

Andrew McPhillips has 20 years experience in the industry, CG Supervising both feature animation and visual effects centric films. Most recently at Sony Picture Imageworks on Hotel Transylvania 2 and previously at Method Studios on The Maze Runner and Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb. His skill set includes lighting and look-development in various renderers and pipelines.

Additional credits include Shrek 2, Minority ReportA.I. Artificial Intelligence, White House Down, Angry Birds and The Great Gatsby.

Andrew Scott - Lead Compositor 

Andrew joined SpinVFX in 2015 where he is now a Lead Compositor.

Graduating with a B.F.A. from Ryerson University’s Film Production Program in 2013, Andrew has worked in a number of different roles in the film industry. He has been a Video Editor, and a Motion Graphics Editor for Newcom Business Media in Toronto.

After joining the SpinVFX Compositing Team, Andrew brought his unique brand of editing and visualization to their process. Today he is a dedicated teacher and mentor within the department, and has pursued extensive research and development on compositing workflows to increase efficiencies.

Andrew’s credits include The Expanse as Lead Compositor, Grace and Frankie as a Sequence Lead, Fear the Walking Dead as Compositing Lead, and The Shannara Chronicles as a Compositing Lead.

Peter Giliberti - Animation Director 

 Peter Giliberti joined SpinVFX in 2009 as Animation Director. With over 20 years of experience in film and television, Peter has been part of bringing to life innumerable televisions shows and feature films. 

 A graduate of Classical Animation at Sheridan College, he began his work in both 2D and 3D animation for children’s television shows before focusing squarely on 3D animation as his career offered new challenges. He later moved to Los Angeles and served as the Lead Animator for the Spider-Man trilogy.

 Since joining the SpinVFX team, Peter has further developed his talents in Digital Double work and Creature Animation, working on all aspects of the animation process from previsualization to motion capture.

 Peter’s film credits include Watchmen (2009), Game of Thrones, and Disney’s Descendants 2 (2017).He has also been part of two Oscar-winning VFX teams: Spiderman 2 (2004), and the Sony animated short The Chubbchubbs! (2002).

 Peter is currently heading the animation team for multiple science fiction series’, including The Expanse and Nightflyers. 

Chris Cox - Visual FX Producer

Chris began his career as an artist, after graduating from Canisius College with a degree in Digital Media Arts and obtaining a Fine Arts certificate from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts.

 He later moved in to documentary filmmaking, producing the 2013 film entitled Our Man in Tehran, for which he won a Canadian Screen Award after it’s successful premier at TIFF. He has successfully produced several other films such as Dr. Baseball, and served as a Stereo Production Manager on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) and King Arthur Legend of the Sword (2017).

Since joining the SpinVFX team first as a Production Coordinator, Chris now manages all production projects that require CG assets, overseeing multiple departments including Layout, Model/Texture, Matte Painting, Creature/Concept Design, Animation, Effects and Lighting. He has introduced several new processes and organizational workflows that have helped meet the increasing demands of the studio.

Chris’ production credits include Star Trek Discovery, The Expanse, and Flatliners (2017). He is also serving as the Stereo Producer on the upcoming feature film Alpha.

Do I need to register?

Yes, registration is required for this event.

Is this event open to everyone?

No, this event is open to DGC Full and Associate Members currently in Good Standing and participants in the Guild Apprentice Program. You must have pre-paid and registered for this event through this page. There will be no payments taken at the door.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, please bring your ticket as confirmation of your registration.

What is the refund policy?

If you notify the Training department within 1 business day of the event that you can no longer attend, you may request a refund for the course. Once a course has taken place, you are not able to receive a refund.
