About this event
In June 2020, the Government of Canada announced the $912 million Canada Student Service Grant program would be administered by WE Charity, "the only possible option" able to administer the program. The announcement caused widespread backlash resulting in accusations of cronyism, preferential treatment, and conflict of interest that ultimately led to the demise of WE Charity in Canada.
Using the CPRS Code of Professional Standards and Decision Tree to guide the discussion, participants will analyze the WE scandal and discuss the ethical issues behind it, how the issue was managed from a communications perspective, and what might have been done differently.
