Hear from women like yourselves who are providing for their children, themselves, and their community through business and entrepreneurship.
They are creating fashion, culturally empowering, and sustainable products to uplift our community and pay a way for Black women in their respected industries.
This Holiday Season considering supporting Black Woman-owned businesses across industries by shopping with them, purchasing gift cards and services from them. Black women are brilliant, incredible, and multi-talented let's show up for them with our coins!
Featured Speakers:
- Gwen Madiba, an International public speaker, host, human rights activist, Gwen Madiba is the President of the Equal Chance Foundation, based in Ottawa, Canada. Recipient of the Order of Ottawa in 2019, she was included in the list of the WXN's Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful women that same year. In 2020, she received the Community Builder - COVID-19 Hero Award from United Way.
- Fatuma Fou, Is a local author with two published children’s books, “I am” and “Where Mom Is from”. She is also a tribal artist. She believes in storytelling. Everyone has a story and that’s what makes each of us uniquely different. Through her art and writing, she can share awareness and help my local community become more diverse.
- Penda L. James ,is the CEO of InSCRIBEd Inspiration, LLC. Having experienced the frustration of writer’s block, Penda is a SCRIBE COACH who can identify and breakthrough barriers that keep people from writing. Her goal is to create a plan to “write through it” and help them execute the plan. A proud graduate of Wilberforce University, Penda developed a love for history and helping people tell their story in college. At Bowling Green State University Penda earned her Master’s degree. Her life and work experience plus her faith in God contribute to how she helps writers and leaders put words on paper.

- Black women are starting businesses at the fastest clip of any racial group, according to research by American Express.
- Since 2007, the number of firms owned by African-American women has grown by 164%.
- Nearly half of women-owned businesses in the United States, or 44%, are controlled by minority women, according to Census data and projections by research firm Womenable.
- In venture capital, men still get the lion’s share of funding, with only 2% of capital going to U.S.-based female-only founder teams, according to PitchBook. Of the 2%, women of color get only a fraction
