Event Details

This workshop is an introduction to August Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed improvisational techniques & educational approaches. Designed to encourage embodied reflection and learning, it will provide participants with consciousness-raising tools to broaden understandings of social justice, oppression & community transformation. These techniques will provide participants with a diversity of community-building strategies that explore interpersonal communication, power dynamics, conflict transformation and personal and collective healing and growth. This workshop is intended for anyone interested and committed to social justice and keen to apply arts-based practices in life & work.    

Date: Tuesday April 10
Time: 6pm-9pm
Location: OCAD U, 100 McCaul. St in the Lambert Lounge (main floor, on your left upon entering: watch for signs)

Accessibility: We will gather in a barrier free space. Subway tokens available to attendees by request. Please write to us if you have specific requirements.

Trainers: Natalie Abdou is a life-long learner, facilitator, theatre practitioner and creative soul who loves to reflect, share and learn in community for the purpose of personal healing, social justice and community transformation.   She is currently collaborating with Bloom Consulting, Branch Out Theatre, the Coady International Institute and various youth activist and practitioners working for justice in Egypt and the USA.

Tools for Change

Tools for Change is a project of our community partners, including OPIRG Toronto, OPIRG York, The Community Action Centre of the Student Association at George Brown College, OCAD Student Union, Greenpeace Canada, No One Is Illegal (NOII) and Toronto350.org. We help you develop skills to champion social, economic, and environmental justice. We host approximately 20 skillbuilding workshops a year. Workshops are offered on a sliding scale with scholarships available. Staff and active volunteers of our community partners can attend for free or by donation. This includes students from University of Toronto, York University, George Brown College and OCAD.
