thePanel Presents: Canada & the Future of Free Trade
Mon, 15 May 2017, 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM EDT
The future of free trade is suddenly in flux and Canada has big choices to make. From Brexit to Donald Trump, the events of the past year have halted what seemed like an inevitable march towards a more integrated global marketplace. Treaties are being cancelled and renegotiated, while countries brace for border taxes and trade wars. The debate is no longer about the next wave of trade liberalization, but about whether the world will retreat to the economic nationalism of the past. In this context, should Canada continue to champion global free trade and the institutions that underpin it? Or is it time to rethink our assumptions and develop trade strategies that reflect a new reality?
