Event description

Description

As an entrepreneur, you’re no stranger to juggling a mulititude of tasks, sometimes all at the same time. There’s often no clear-cut line between balancing personal and professional, so when life happens, it happens to you AND your business.

When you're trying to balance your business and family life, how do you decide what has to give?

Maybe you feel a bit guilty taking care of yourself in the middle of it all. Maybe you don’t know who to talk to about what’s going on. Maybe you’re not sure if you can keep running your business the way you want.

#thestruggleyyc panel

Join us as we hear from Koleya Karringten, co-founder and CEO of Absolute Combustion and BitQuest Corp., Pippa Blair, co-founder of Routine Inc., and Kelly Doody, founder & CEO of Social School to talk about how they tackle the fine balance of work, life and play.

Koleya Karringten
Koleya has been a tech entrepreneur, researcher and speaker for 14 years. She has spent over a decade designing and developing new technologies in multiple industry sectors from oil and gas and recycling to aerospace. She is the co-founder and CEO of Absolute Combustion, Civitas Events Corp and BitQuest Corp, as well as the Executive Director of the Alberta Blockchain Consortium and co-founder of Women in Blockchain Alberta. Koleya has proven herself capable of taking ground breaking technologies all the way from the inception phase through to commercialization.

Pippa Blair
Pippa completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from the University of Calgary in 2007 and gained her marketing experience working with brands such as Nike, HBC, and Kids Cancer Care at The T1 Agency, and later at Rogers Communications. Pippa decided to pursue her interest in perinatal health and returned to the U of C in 2012. Within a week of "leaving" the marketing world to start nursing school, Pippa's sister-in-law, Neige Blair, approached her with a business idea to manufacture Neige's natural deodorant formulation. Routine natural deodorant launched at Calgary's Market Collective and is now available in over 2000 retail locations in Canada, the United States, Europe and the EAU.

Kelly Doody
Kelly is a journalist-turned-digital marketing junkie. In addition to founding the Social School, a leading digital marketing academy offering courses, certifications and skills development through live events and virtual programming, she is the co-founder of Press + Post – one of Canada’s foremost modern marketing agencies. Nothing makes Kelly happier than connecting the top digital trends and tools with the entrepreneurs and innovators who need them most.

What is #theStruggleYYC?

They say that being an entrepreneur is a roller coaster ride, but you probably hear more about the highs than the lows. The struggle is indeed very real. We’re creating a safe space to share the real and raw stories of starting and running a business. The good, the bad, the ugly. And those little moments that keep you going against the odds. Because you don’t have to go it alone.

Join ATB and our #Struggle series event partner, Work Nicer, for local beers, refreshments and war stories at their newest coworking space, Red Mile! Come with an open mind; leave with a more resilient mindset of what it means to be an entrepreneur today.
