Event Details

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer affects women of all backgrounds and this October we want to increase awareness among black women. Black women are just as likely to get breast cancer as white women. However, according to research from the UK and the US, black women have worse health outcomes, particularly women of West African descent.

Black women tend to be diagnosed at a younger age, with more aggressive forms of breast cancer that can be harder to treat.

Exercise is one form of prevention. The Think Afro-Pink Breast Cancer Awareness event will encourage students/staff/faculty to get active, provide pamphlets and health information about this issue, and connect participants with community-based resources.

This free event is open to all U of T students (and their mothers), staff, and faculty. Participants are welcome to make a donation to The Olive Branch of Hope Cancer Support Services for Black women, through the purchase of a t-shirt (optional). On site registration is available from 4:00pm - 4:30pm.
