Benefits to Students:
As a graduate student, 3MT is a fantastic opportunity for you to practice and improve your presentation skills, learn how to communicate your research effectively (and to a broad audience), win some money, as well as create a gateway to many exciting opportunities. This competition is an opportunity for you to share your work and make connections with other SFU graduate students, and to develop knowledge translation strategies for your research. Competing in this event will help you have a ready answer for anyone asking about your work. For example, check out this video. All three of the students were 3MT finalists whose involvement in the competition had a major positive impact on their SFU graduate career and opened a lot of doors for them.
Eligibility:
SFU's Faculty of Education graduate students (MA, MSc, PhD, EdD) undertaking a thesis, project, or major research paper are eligible to complete. Non-thesis based (MEd) students can also compete, but will not be eligible to compete at the regional and national competitions. Students must be active in their graduate program. Students who have already defended but have not yet graduated are eligible to compete.
Faculty of Education 3MT HEAT Prizes:
- 1st Place: $350; Runner-up: $150; People's Choice: $50
- More prizes to be won for those who advance to the finals!
