Participate and present in the Three Rs & Animal Research Trainee Symposium as part of the two-day Animal-Human Relationship event.

About this Event

This event will provide researchers of tomorrow (Post-Doctoral Fellows, graduate and undergraduate students) an opportunity to share—through oral or poster presentation—their progress made towards the Three Rs in animal research.

Registration through this page is for trainees presenting in the symposium. It includes the following:

  • Registration as a presenter and attendee of the morning Trainee Symposium on October 18, 2019 from 8:30 am to 12 noon (Poster set-up is from 7:30-8:30 am on October 18, 2019.)
  • Registration for the networking lunch (from 12 noon to 2 pm)
  • Registration as an attendee of the afternoon session with keynote speakers and symposium awards presentation (from 2pm to 5pm).

NOTE: See below for details involving separate submission requirements following Eventbrite registration.

Cash prizes of $300 will be awarded for both oral and poster presentations in each category.

Two additional prizes of $200 will be awarded for animal research projects funded by NSERC, industry, or by Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

The first annual Three Rs and Animal Research Trainee Symposium is presented by the Research Services and Ethics Office (RSEO), Office of the Vice-President Research at the University of Saskatchewan.

Presentation Categories

Trainees are invited to present in any of the following three categories:

  1. Three Rs Research (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement)
  2. Use of Vertebrate Animals in Biomedical Sciences (This category is for any research involving the use of vertebrate animals to understand fundamental processes of living vertebrate systems, behaviour of vertebrate animals, population dynamics, etc.)
  3. Animal Research Knowledge Mobilization (dissemination of research findings and knowledge to the end user who use it to implement new services, policies, procedural in their communities or society at large)

Submission Details

In addition to registration via Eventbrite, trainees must also complete this survey through SurveyMonkey which includes submission of a 1-2 page abstract of their research by August 23, 2019.

Abstracts will be reviewed and selected by a subcommittee of the University Animal Care Committee (UACC).

Trainees will be notified by e-mail by September 13, 2019 with results from the competition. Up to 12 trainees will be selected to give an oral presentation and up to 52 trainees will be selected to present a poster at the symposium. Trainees must confirm their acceptance to present the symposium by September 20, 2019.
