THRIVE Talks with SAD Mag
Wed, 26 April 2017, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM PDT
THRIVE TALKS is a speakers series that invites successful female—including those who are cis, trans, gender non-binary, gender-fluid and femme-identified—artists and women in the arts to share their journeys, successes and advice with other women. Each THRIVE TALK is held in an intimate setting that allows for a unique opportunity to get to know the speaker.
Join us on Wednesday, April 26th from 7pm until 8:30pm to meet Michelle Cyca and Katie Stewart, the co-publishers of SAD Mag. Their talk will be about how to utilize the supports in your city and community; why it's great to make things with your best friends; and all the amazing artists and creative people that they've had the pleasure of working with or featuring. The perfect talk for artists who want to learn about behind-the-scenes of an art publication and more support available to artists!
After the talk there will be time to ask questions and mingle until 9pm.
About the speaker
Michelle Cyca makes magazines and writes for passion and profit in Vancouver, BC. By day she is a digital communications strategist, and the rest of the time she is working on SAD Mag, writing about junk food, or doing crossword puzzles. She was recently appointed to the City of Vancouver Arts & Culture Policy Council, and so she hopes you'll tell her how the city can better support its artists.
Katie Stewart is a quick-thinking and highly innovative creative professional with a penchant for getting shit done. More than anything, she loves facilitating unique (and sometimes surprising) community collaborations centred on new ideas, new art, and new solutions to complex social problems. Katie is a passionate community builder and strategic thinker. Prior to becoming the Director of Social Impact at HiVE, she was a Strategist and Content Queen at a digital agency called Make Creative. She is a sometimes writer, curator and photographer.
