7:30 show

Outer Middle Zone

Behind this dark curtain lies another dimension. A dimension of late night science fiction comedy inspired by The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. The dimension we call… The Outer-Middle Zone.

Nikolai Witschl, Brad Duffy, Travis Bernhardt, Chelsey Stuyt, Max Tennessen, and Briana Rayner navigate the border between the everyday and the uncanny, bringing you stories packed with horrifying twists, huge ideas, hilarity, and suspense!

Perf

Perf is a longform improv duo from Vancouver/Montreal. They use personal monologues and stories to explore grounded yet joyful slices of life. Spoiler alert: Mark will most assuredly reference and/or list notable moments from Canadian History and Taylor will most certainly make him uncomfortable by flirting with him in character.

Taylor and Mark began performing together in Montreal with their group Mongrel. They performed at the Del Close Marathon in New York, Big City Improv Festival in Toronto and at Montreal Improv whenever they could scratch their way on stage. They are delighted to have scratched their way onto a stage in Vancouver.

King Ricky

King Ricky is a long-form improv team from the wilds of Portland, Oregon. Comprised of experienced performers from theaters throughout Portland, their unique brand of improv blends irreverence, intelligence and deep, thoughtful connections. Hailing from theaters including Curious Comedy Theater, Brody Theater Portland and Kickstand Comedy Space, King Ricky puts a new spin on a classic improv form (the Harold). Their namesake is a majestically scruffy dog named Ricky who allows them to rehearse in his home.

King Ricky was originally formed as an advanced Harold study group through Kickstand Comedy Space, coached by veteran performers from UCB New York and iO Chicago. The team’s approach is a blend of both schools’ philosophies, while also bringing a Portland sensibility that makes their shows completely unique. Using a modified Pattern Game opening, they perform Game-forward, grounded scenes with strong relationships that ramp up with fast-paced tag-runs in the second beat, clever connections in the third beat and endlessly supportive group games. The driving philosophy behind King Ricky’s style of play is “Follow the Fun.”

9:30 show

Reynolds

Reynolds is one of Blind Tiger Comedy’s two resident house teams. They perform high energy, playful, character driven, boundary pushing Harold-ish sets with an emphasis on strong ensemble work and letting their freak flags fly high.

Festival Ensemble BRAVO

The International Ensembles are an opportunity for individual improvisers the world over to spend a week workshopping new and new-to-them improv forms. Dozens of performers apply for a handful of spots and work with guest directors to create evening performances live for you, our audience.

This year our TWO INTERNATIONAL ENSEMBLES include performers who live in Toronto, Phoenix, San Diego, Calgary, Los Angeles, Portland, New York, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Vancouver, who have toured across Canada, across the US, and internationally, who are writers, actors, directors, musicians and stand up comedians (when they’re not improvising, of course). They are television stars, Artistic Directors of theatres, comedy and theatre award winners, teachers, friends and lovers. They’re also all gifted improvisers, and they’re all here to entertain you.

One thing is certain — the International Ensembles are groups of people who will likely never all work together again. In some cases, you’d have to travel pretty far to see any of them on their home turf. Now you can enjoy all of them, without even leaving your seat.
