SYNOPSIS: TIMON OF ATHENS

Timon is an Athenian living a life of decadence. He loves to throw lavish parties, where he plies his friends with food, wine, gifts, and other things of great value. However, Timon, like the society he operates in, has been living beyond his means. His steward Flavius warns Timon to no avail. Apemantus, a scientist, speaks out about what she sees happening, but no one will listen. Suddenly Timon’s creditors come to collect, and his life of decadence abruptly shifts to decay. Worse, his false friends refuse to help him.

When Timon’s friends turn their backs on him, he rejects the lavish culture of Athens, and goes to live outside the Athenian walls. This is a world populated by bandits, courtesans, and the banished Alcibiades who is preparing to march against the Athenian power brokers who turned on him as they did on Timon. Many visitors from Timon's past life seek him out at his new dwellings, and challenge his decision to live as a recluse. Eventually, the Senators of Athens come to plead with Timon for his intervention in the war, as their despise at the hands of Alcibiades and his rag-tag army becomes imminent. Timon's decision will affect the outcome of the looming attack.
