Topic #5: Real Estate Trends

Chinatown is one of Calgary’s most distinctive cultural communities. Its mix of businesses and wide range of housing options for seniors are appreciated by many. While retaining these strengths is very important to the community, attracting new shops, businesses and residents to the neighbourhood is a priority as well.

In this roundtable discussion, we ask participants to share their thoughts on the recent trends of Chinatown's commercial and residential real estate marketplace, and to help us understand what would motivate retailers, businesses and residents to choose Chinatown as their future location or home.

• What are the recent trends for Chinatown’s real estate marketplace?
• What are retailers, businesses and residents (tenants and buyers) asking for?
• What would motivate them to choose Chinatown as a location?
• What unique strengths, gaps and opportunities do you see for Chinatown’s real estate market?
• What would encourage the activation or redevelopment of existing real estate to align with today’s needs and opportunities?

This is for anyone with an interest in Calgary Chinatown, and who wants to discuss the experiences, culture and future opportunities of this unique community.

Format

This will be a virtual discussion in a small group with opportunity for everyone to speak. The session is not recorded for the public to view, except for note-taking purposes. An anonymized summary of the outcomes will be shared with the public.
