Why learn about Artmaking?
Art is everywhere - even on our computers!
Kids Learning Code is excited to combine the power of play with basic design and programming skills for this hands-on workshop. This experience offers kids the opportunity to learn basic programming principles in a super fun, beginner-friendly environment! Through merging creativity with basic coding concepts, kids will use code to create digital artwork on their computer. Each Artmaking with Scratch workshop has the same flow, but different activities. Come and create new artwork every time!
Using Scratch, a beginner level programming environment, kids will have the tools to develop interactive art and art-building platforms to share and use. Kids will also be introduced to Scratch's amazing online community, sloganed: "Imagine, Program, Share," where they will have the opportunity to upload their projects to share with fellow digital artists!
Is this workshop right for you?
This is a Level 2 workshop for Kids ages 9-12. We recommend participants attend any of our Level 1 Scratch workshops (Gamemaking, Animating, or Artmaking) or have a good familiarity with Scratch already.
What will I have learned by the end of this workshop?
What is Kids Learning Code?
Founded by the same women who introduced Ladies Learning Code and Girls Learning Code in 2012, Kids Learning Code is less about “code” and more about changing the world – through teamwork, creativity, and, of course, technology, while leveraging team diversity.
We're a Canada-wide community driven not-for-profit working to empower women and youth to feel comfortable learning beginner-friendly technical skills in a social and collaborative way.
