Toronto Sector Skills Academy 2020 Information Webinar (April)
Event Information
Description
For low-income people who are seeking to enter or to advance in today’s labour market, the challenges are profound. Effective, coordinated, and responsive strategies are critical to enabling better opportunities for Ontario’s low-income, precarious, and unemployed workers.
Sector-focused workforce development is a promising practice that seeks to improve opportunities for low-income workers while also working to build a stronger economy. Sector strategies focus on two outcomes. One is helping workers move into better jobs by removing barriers and skills gaps, or building ladders. The second is improving the quality of low-wage jobs, or raising the floor.
To address the growing interest and need for sector-focused workforce development, the Metcalf Foundation established the Toronto Sector Skills Academy in 2016 to foster leadership and invest in local talent that understands and can apply sector strategies to the local economy. This leadership program is the first of its kind in Canada, and is offered by Metcalf in partnership with the Aspen Institute.
During this webinar, Inclusive Local Economies Program Director Adriana Beemans will provide an overview of the 10-month program and answer questions in advance of its June 16, 2020 application deadline.* Attendance is strongly encouraged for those considering applying to the program. However, it is not a prerequisite for submitting an application.
Please register as space is limited.
Another webinar will also take place on May 21st, 2020 for those who can't make this date.
More information about the Toronto Sector Skills Academy is also available on the Metcalf website.
If you have questions in advance of the information session, please contact sectorskills@metcalffoundation.com.
*As we monitor the unfolding situation around the coronavirus pandemic, this date may change, but we will have updates about this by the time of the webinar.
