Event description

Description

Look up! Waaaay Up! And join us for a walk as we explore how Toronto grew tall!

From bank towers to condos, learn the stories behind the buildings that shape Toronto’s iconic skyline and the pioneer towers that started it all. Our tour will start with a visit to City Hall, a masterpiece of contemporary architecture that launched Toronto into the modern age, and then head into the heart of the financial district, home of Canada’s five largest banks and many of the city’s tallest structures. Along the way we will uncover hidden gems among the skyscrapers, rediscover some of the beautiful art-deco structures that once dominated our skyline, and even take peek into the future as we discuss the buildings that will shape the skyline of tomorrow. Of course, no tour of the financial district would be complete without a visit to works of contemporary masters including Mies van der Rohe, I.M. Pei and Santiago Calatrava.

Highlights include Toronto City Hall (Viljo Revell with John B. Parkin Associates, 1958-65), Toronto Dominion Centre (Ludwig Mies van der Rohe with John B. Parkin Associates, Bregman & Hamann Architects, 1963-69), Commerce Court (I.M. Pei & Partners with Page & Steele, 1968-72), and Berzcy Park (Claude Cormier and Associés, 2013-2017).
