Description
Toronto The Good: A Jane’s Walk Launch Party
Thursday May 5, 2016 (Free, but registration is required)
A party thrown each year by ERA Architects (and friends) to celebrate Toronto and contemplate its history and evolution with fellow architects, designers, thinkers, and urban-minded people.
This year we are celebrating the launch of the 10th Jane’s Walk festival! Inspired by the ideals of the late civic activist and prolific writer Jane Jacobs, this is a movement of free, citizen-led walking tours that get people to share stories, explore their communities, and connect with neighbors. From May 6-8, 2016 there will be over 1000 Jane's Walks taking place around the world from Toronto to São Paulo to Tokyo to Zagreb. Decide which Jane's Walks you want to go on at http://janeswalk.org/.
“Heritage and Democracy: Bringing Heritage out of History and into the City”
ICOMOS Workshop :: 9AM-5PM
Friday May 6, 2016 ($12-$20)
A one-day workshop presented by the Canadian committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS CANADA) that explores tactical heritage urbanism in the Canadian context. Tactical urbanism usually refers to small-scale, short-term interventions that are meant to inspire long-term change. As heritage aficionados, we’re interested in exploring ideas, actions, and interventions related to identity, public realm, civic engagement, tangible and intangible heritage, and telling stories from a multiplicity of voices. Explore Toronto on a specially curated early morning Jane's Walk followed by workshops at 105 Bond Street. Lunch will be provided.
