Toronto Wearables 33:
The Emperor Has No Wearables
Wearables are now “everywhere”. Yet as many of them are ending up in drawers or on shelves as on our bodies. The first wave has come and gone and now seems like a great time to step back and reflect before the next one hits. What have we learned from this initial expedition into intimate devices that inhabit people’s everyday lives? What worked? What’s missing? What needs to be changed?
Toronto Wearables Meetup first launched in 2010, years before the wearables craze hit Toronto. This month, at our 33rd event, we will host a discussion focused on critical and creative inquiry into the state of affairs in this dynamic and divisive field. We invite long time wearables practitioners and researchers as well as newly minted entrepreneurs and enthusiasts to share their thoughts and experiences. As we sift through our past experiences we will also discuss as a community what to do with our event moving forward. Where are the current opportunities for wearables? How do we want to get there? And what direction do we think wearables shouldn’t go?
All event hosted at gamma space have affirmed their Code of Conduct and policy on inclusion. The space is on the ground floor and has no steps to ascend. Please find further accessibility information here.
