Getting Board-Ready Workshops from Women Get On Board 

This "Getting Board-Ready" workshop is developed to provide you with insights on How to Get Yourself on a Board.  Getting yourself board-ready is a journey where you need to be realistic in your skills, experience and value you bring to a board. You also need to be mindful that it is a very competitive marketplace. There is an over-supply of qualified corporate directors for a limited supply of available corporate board seats.

  • Preparing for board interviews

Deborah Rosati, FCPA, FCA, ICD.D

Deborah Rosati is an accomplished corporate director, entrepreneur, Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA) and certified Corporate Director (ICD.D) with more than 30 years of experience in technology, consumer, retail, cannabis, private equity and venture capital. An experienced Audit Committee and Nominating & Corporate Governance Committee chair, Deborah provides extensive knowledge as a Corporate Director in the areas of financial and enterprise risk management, corporate strategy, transformational changes, M&A, corporate governance and CEO and board succession planning. 

Deborah currently leads and serves as a Corporate Director for Lift & Co.(TSX-V: LIFT) as Vice Chair and Chair of the Audit Committee. Deborah recently served on the board of MedReleaf (TSX:LEAF) as the Chair of the Audit Committee (-acquired by AuroraCannabis (TSX: ACB)- July 2018, as well as she, chaired the Audit Committee, for NexJ Systems (TSX: NXJ) and was on the board of Sears Canada (TSX: SCC).

She is the Founder & CEO of Women Get On Board, a leading member-based company that connects, promotes and empowers women to corporate boards. Deborah has been selected as a Diversity 50 2014 candidate and was recognized in 2012 as one of WXN’s Top 100 Canada’s Most Powerful Women in the corporate director award category.

Denise Carpenter, ICD.D 
Chair of the Board, Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation

DCDenise Carpenter has spent her career advocating for companies on issues that matter to Canadians. Denise has a strong track record in building relationships that deliver value to multiple stakeholders in complex business environments. She works with Boards and management teams to identify and address enterprise risks, including operational, policy and reputational risks. She develops swift and effective strategies that position organizations for sustainable growth.

Denise supports organizational leaders and Boards on business integration, operational transformation, risk and resilience assessment, and leadership development through measurement-driven performance management and compensation programs. As a Board Director, she has led cyber risk identification and mitigation strategies for several organizations. Both as a Board Director, CEO and consultant she has worked with a variety of complicated business and governance structures and led efforts to create alignment with Board and management. With extensive experience in highly regulated, dynamic, multi-stakeholder environments, she works to help organizations deliver measurable outcomes against strategy. Denise’s most recent work focuses on utilities, energy, cyber security and a national digital health platform. Through her ability to ask the right questions, respect diversity of thought, foster dialogue and build consensus, she brings a diverse background to the table.

Denise is currently Chair of the Board, Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation, Vice Chair and Chair of the Audit Committee of Synergy North and on the Advisory Board of a cyber security firm. As a consultant, she is advising several organizations on building sustainable corporate and human resource structures. Denise applies her recognized experience and expertise in complicated regulatory and public policy environments, stakeholder engagement, governance, mergers and integration of merged and acquired entities.

Denise completed the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) Directors’ Education Program at the University of Toronto in 2009. She has served as a guest lecturer and executive in residence at the University of Alberta’s MBA program and guest lecturer at the Fellows Program, Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard. She has written and lectured widely on governance as a business enabler and stakeholder relations, including public opposition to the siting of industrial infrastructure, or social friction.

In 2018 Denise was appointed to Diversity 50 Cohort, recognizing Canada’s most diverse and eligible board candidates. She has been honoured by Global TV as a Woman of Vision; by the YWCA with a Woman of Distinction Award; and has twice been named one of Alberta’s 50 most influential people by Alberta Venture magazine.

She now lives in Toronto and continues to travel widely.
