Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Have you ever been through a bad breakup where you hated the world AND yourself?

This film explores what that's like. It's an anti-romantic comedy by Toronto's very own mathematician turned filmmaker Curt Jaimungal. If you're expecting a v-day rom com with mental health fluff as filler, this event is not for you.

We're going to watch the film, talk about mental health, and think about what we as parents / society need to do to support each other and do better. As well as how to recognize behaviour with our kids and specific "how-to"s.

Let's keep the conversation on mental health going beyond #BellLetsTalk!

Timeline: ~ 7:00PM I'm Okay screens ~ 8:50PM Panel discussion on Mental Health

Panelists

Curt Jaimungal: Filmmaker. Curt is also the Founder of indiefilmTO, Canada's first film incubator!

Jacalyn Kelly: Graduate Student in the Department of Medical Biophysics and Co-Chair of Grad Minds Mental Health Advocacy Committee

Michael Tau Third-year psychiatry resident at the University of Toronto and co-curator of the Cinema Medica film series.

And moderated by:

Cristina Jaimungal: A PhD student in the Department of Social Justice Education and the University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union (UTGSU) External Commissioner.

Be sure to get your tickets early This event sold out at TIFF Lightbox each time it screened, so we encourage you to get tickets early to avoid disappoinment.

This event has been generously organized by Annette Courtemanche and could not have happened without her.

The coordination of making it a school event has been helped in large part by Vince Meade (Principal, Harbord Collegiate Institute), Jessica Lederman (School Council Chair), and Fernanda Santos (Office Staff). Let's have a HUGE thanks for all of their support! And in partnership with the University of Toronto Graduate Students Union (UTGSU).
