This workshop is all about the connection between sound and visuals, and explores creative, physical, mathematical, and abstract methods of creating real-time audio-reactive visuals. From cymatics and visualizations using physical sound vibrations, to lissajous figures and oscilloscopes, to FFT, we'll look at many different ways of embodying the characteristics of sound. Using TouchDesigner, we'll look at ways of creating dynamic, controllable, real-time visuals for live performance or rendered music videos.
■ About the instructor
Ginger Leigh | Synthestruct
Ginger Leigh is an interactive and audiovisual designer creating installations, performances, and multi-modal experiences inspired by science and mathematics. In her audiovisual performances she explores creative methods of live control through sensors and interactive systems. Sound being a core topic of interest, she examines the physical and mathematical aspects of sound through cymatics and real-time reactive visuals. Her installations utilize real-time EEG, pulse sensors, and other exploratory means of connecting conscious and subconscious actions with interactive experiences and abstract ritual.
Her work has been presented at ARTECHOUSE DC, Sonar Festival (Barcelona), Society for Art and Technology (Montreal), Music Tech Festival (Stockholm, Berlin, Umeå), and Orlando Science Center.
