Event description

Description

Traditional music had a big impact on the lives of early pioneers and workers, and still has a powerful influence. This workshop is presented by the organizers of the Princeton Traditional Music Festival.

Jon and Rika will show you the importance of song as oral tradition, the history and importance of folksongs in the pioneer days, and the power of song in society. Learn some of the techniques of those songs so you can create your own! No experience require -- bring an instrument if you have one!

With a life long commitment to traditional music, Jon Bartlett and Rika Ruebsaat are singers of traditional song and scholars of ballads, shanties, and other folk songs. In its 10th year, the Princeton Traditional Music Festival, and its success, is a testimony to their passion and hard work.
