Event description

Description

Rug Hooking is a traditional fibre art that frees you to follow your imagination. Originally developed as a way to warm the floors of drafty houses, rug hooking has evolved into a contemporary art form, using new and recycled materials. In this class you will learn the basics of rug hooking. From the basic materials and equipment you need and beyond! After choosing from given designs, you will learn how to transfer the design to the backing and, finally, how to hook it. You will never be held back by having to buy a pattern or kit. You will surely be hooked!

All supplies are included. If you own a sharp pair of scissors, please bring them with you to the workshop.

Artist Biography:

Holly Kingdon discovered rug hooking in 1999, while on a trip to the east coast of Canada. She instantly fell in love with the freedom and creativity of the art form and has been rug hooking ever since. Holly is an accredited teacher with the Western Canadian Rug Hooking Education Association. She has been teaching beginner and advanced Rug Hooking as well as Felting techniques for over 10 years. Holly is a member of the Sheep Creek Weavers as well as the former President of the Chinook Guild of Fibre Arts in Calgary.
