Event description

Description

In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Futurpreneur Canada, in partnership with TruShield, is proud to present Trailblazers 2018: a celebration and showcase of inspiring young Canadian female entrepreneurs.

Join us on November 15th and hear from trailblazing Futurpreneur-supported women entrepreneurs who have used their ventures to break down barriers and forge new paths in the entrepreneurial community. Be inspired by their stories, network with other entrepreneurs and community members, and help celebrate the importance of small business in Canada during Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Your ticket also includes pizza, soft drinks and one drink ticket from the bar!

Meet our Trailblazers:

Taran Ghatrora - CEO, Blume

Futurpreneur-supported Taran Ghatrora is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Blume, a digitally native empowerment and education company. She is a 500 start-ups fellow and G20 Young Entrepreneur’s Alliance youth delegate for Canada. Ghatrora’s passion for health and advocacy broadened in law school when she researched gender equality due to lack of access to period products. The result of which evolved into Blume, an organization whose main focus and objectives surround organic personal care products for girls and women who believe in the power of their choices.

Lizzy Karp - Co-Founder, Here There Studio

As co-founder of Futurpreneur-supported Here There Studio, Lizzy Karp is a proud dual-citizen. Born and raised in Salt Lake City and currently rooted in Vancouver, BC, Karp is a Senior Manager at STORYHIVE, a multi-million dollar fund supporting independent voices through filmmaking grants, training and distribution. With a focus on gender equity and accessibility for traditionally underrepresented voices in media and community change via storytelling, Karp’s combination of entrepreneurial spirit and passion for event production led her to co-found Here There Studio, Vancouver’s premiere creative event agency. Here There is a multidisciplinary studio that activates brands through experiences and stories that disrupt expectation. Through creative direction and production, Here There is an unconventional studio that is defined by energetic, playful and unexpected projects tailored to clients, partners and communities. In 2015, Karp was named one of BC’s Business top 30 under 30 list.

Mai Eilia - Founder, Magnum Construction

Just four years after moving to Canada as a refugee from Syria, Mai Eilia launched Futurpreneur-supported Magnum Construction. From drywall, to interior design, Magnum Construction focuses on delivering a high quality product to customers with any budget. The Magnum Construction vision is to differentiate services from fly-by-night contractors, priding themselves in being available to listen to customer's ideas and make their home dreams come true. Eilia is a female entrepreneur with a variety of skill sets that enabled her to pierce through the market, and, because of this, Eilia makes a point of giving back to her community, by hiring refugees from Syria, Iraq and Somalia. Her success is just as extraordinary as her capability of giving back.

Jamie Smith - Founder, THRIVE Art Studio

An artist and community builder, Jamie Smith founded Futurpreneur-supported Thrive Art Studio in 2015. THRIVE provides crucial support to the female, gender fluid and gender non-binary artist community. By doing so, Smith created THRIVE Mastermind, a yearlong program where members meet monthly to share resources, advice and mentorship. THRIVE also hosts a speaking series and podcast called THRIVE Talks as well as classes for artists. A proud artist herself, Smith’s motto is “Do The Work” and she believes community is essential to a successful creative practice.

Emily Lycopolus - Founder, Olive The Senses

As the founder of Futurpreneur-supported Olive The Senses, Emily Lycopolus prides herself in being an olive oil connoisseur. Author of five olive oil-focused cookbooks, a level 2 olive oil sommelier, serial entrepreneur and the current co-founder of eatcreative.ca, a food-driven creative content agency, Lycopolus says her love for olive oil began in Italy, where her family owns an olive grove. Her greatest joys are in bringing unique gourmet experiences from exclusive international communities to everyone's table. With a global following sparked by her trend-setting Olive the Senses store in Victoria BC, her exquisite cultural cuisine cookbooks and community involvement, Lycopolus encourages everyone to join her in the sharing of culinary discovery.
