Event description

Description

Trans Is Not A Tragedy: They Are Beautiful is created and directed by Beck Hood & Cara Tierney.

In Trans Is Not A Tragedy: They Are Beautiful, Cara and Beck will perform and share their personal stories about self-identifying as transgender, expressing gender fluidity, socially and medically transitioning over the past 40 years while weaving together art, spoken word, hope, health, wellness, and resiliency while navigating isolation, depression, anxiety, fear, and suicidal ideation. Cara and Beck are a powerhouse combination of energy, creativity, life and transformative experiences.

By connecting art, humor, sparkles, gentle questioning, curiosity, vulnerability, and reality, Cara and Beck creatively explore a rich range of topics and invite participants into conversations on:

  • Overcoming the diagnosis barriers and gender binaries of the medical transition assessment process,
  • Awakening and breaking free from the fog and oppressive narrative of “transgender is a mental illness”,
  • Embracing being transgender as beautiful,
  • The importance of Bill C-16, and
  • Now that they are 40, their dreams for the next 40 years.

This gathering will take place on unceded Algonquin territory. Acknowledging territory shows recognition of and respect for the host nation, the Omàmiwininìwag (Algonquin peoples, in the Algonquin language).

Please take time to honor and respect the land we are living on today. Please take time to honor and respect those who came before us, those who are with us now and those who will be walking in our footsteps in the future.

Our opening workshop will begin in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Rural Ontario locations TBA.
