TransMountain Trouble: The TransMountain pipeline saga

June 20th, 2018, 6:00-7:30 pm. Refreshments served.

"The Texans are out and Canada is in": on May 29th, the federal government announced it would buy Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain pipeline. The deal may help the project eventually outlast its opponents but it doesn't resolve a number of legal and policy questions that will determine the immediate future of the pipeline and the long-term future of Canadian energy markets.

To what extent may provinces regulate energy transport? Will a federal buyout encourage or discourage future investors in national fuel and power transport? Join energy law experts Professor Nigel Bankes (University of Calgary Facutly of Law) and Professor James Coleman (Southern Methodist University Faculty of Law) for an informal chat on the significance of the historic federal purchase and legal prognosis going forward.
