AWARENESS WORKSHOP FOR EMERGENCY RESPONDERS, INDUSTRY & MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS

PLEASE NOTE: SATURDAY SESSION HAS BEEN CANCELLED

PARKING IS AVAILABLE AT HYDE CONSTRUCTION AND STRATFORD FAMILY HEALTH TEAM LOTS ($3)

These four one-day workshops are designed to educate emergency responders staff, municipal officials, and industry personnel on best practices for dealing with hazardous materials transportation emergencies. Attendees will include firefighters, fire captains, fire prevention officers, station chiefs, paramedics and paramedic commanders, police officers, sergeants and senior officers, hospital and public health officials, public works and arena staff, municipal managers and support staff, emergency managers, dispatchers, media relations officers, as well as chiefs and civilian employees of the above agencies.

Each day will consist of a classroom portion featuring presentations from industry experts on a number of topics including:

  • Overview of the CIAC (Chemistry Industry Association of Canada) and the TRANSCAER (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response Initiative).

  • Overview of railway emergency response capabilities

  • Anhydrous Ammonia - Build product awareness, uses, characteristics, and first responder strategies

  • Propane - Build product awareness, uses, characteristics, and first responder strategies

  • Chlorine - Build product awareness, uses and characteristics, and first responder strategies

  • Flammable Liquids - Characteristics of flammable liquids and emergency response strategies

  • Transport Canada - Provide information regarding ERAP (Emergency Response Assistance Plan), North American Emergence Response Guide and industry response requirements

  • Evacuation or Shelter - When to do, how to do, pros and cons of each

The outdoor activities are being finalized but we are anticipating:

  • Cargo tanks - review design, construction and safety features of tank trucks

  • Emergency response and spill contractor equipment displays

  • Support agency displays and equipment
