Event description

Description

Social workers are well trained to be transformational leaders. As professionals we are taught to identify the needed change, create the vision, inspire and guide others to work toward that change.

If you chose social work as a career, you already possess the desire, the ambition, the vision, and the drive to do great things. However, in the current neo-liberal paradigm often these skills are not utilized creating tensions between the demands of the work place and the values and standards of the profession.

This workshop with Alec Stratford will:

  1. Explore the historical development of the professional social work identity
  2. Examine the current ethical tensions in practice
  3. Support the development of professional identity in the current neo-liberal paradigm
  4. Develop skills and tools for leadership in large systems in order to create transformational change
