Event description

Description

Please join us for the physician wellness CPD workshop: Transforming Our Work - Thriving in Medicine, held on April 27 & 28, 2019 at the Northstar Mountain Village Resort in beautiful Kimberley BC. Family Physicians, as well as Specialists, are warmly invited to take part in this unique opportunity.

Facilitated by Lee-Anne Laverty MD and Tandi Wilkinson MD, this is a 2-day workshop focused on themes such as maintaining a healthy professional practice, reinforcing communication skills between colleagues, and defining the unique characteristics of our medical culture that predispose physicians towards professional burnout. At the end of this one-of-a-kind workshop, you will leave with a personalized plan, applicable now, in your own practice.

Space is limited; $500 fee at the time of registration $600 if you require a hotel. Accommodation, meals, and handouts provided as part of your registration. Accommodation is booked at the Mountain Spirit Resort in Kimberley with priority given to out-of-town MDs who are participating in the event. This event is supported by the Cranbrook MSA and the East Kootenay Division of Family Practice.

Catering will be provided by Green Door Catering - please be sure to provide us with any dietary requirements.

See you there!

***ACCREDITED*** This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by UBC CPD. You may claim a maximum of 8.25 hours (credits are automatically calculated). This Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by UBC CPD for up to 8.25 Mainpro+ credits. Each physician should claim only those credits he/she actually spent in the activity.

Come to our workshop and discover the depth, richness and infinite possibilities that arise from connection to self and others, as a way of moving from surviving to thriving in medicine, finding joy and ease in work, and realizing our higher purpose of being a contribution to others. This workshop includes yoga and meditation, although no previous experience of these is required.

Bios

Dr. Lee-Anne Laverty is an orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty training in hand, wrist, and microsurgery. Her contribution to this workshop comes from having experienced professional burnout and her working towards creating ease and joy in her job. She is a Yoga Alliance certified teacher and will share with you many of the healing tools and shifts that she has discovered through doing this work.

Dr. Tandi Wilkinson is a long time rural practitioner. After years providing full spectrum family practice care in rural BC, she eventually switched over to full-time emergency medicine, working in Nelson and Yellowknife. She has held a role in medical education leadership at UBC CPD and has developed and taught many traveling skills-based courses for rural physicians, including The Shock Course and The HOUSE Course. Her main qualification to develop this workshop is the lessons learned, and the mistakes made, on her long, hard, personal journey towards being fully alive and engaged in life.
