Help Design Tomorrow's Planning System – Register Today!

Transforming Planning is pleased to announce a public workshop series to co-design a new planning system for Calgary.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: early collaboration for best outcomes, finding solutions to reach decisions

Transforming Planning invites you to help co-design the next stage of Calgary’s new planning system. During May 2013, we’ll be holding workshops in locations across the city, inviting all stakeholders – citizens, City staff, industry and communities – to gather diverse perspectives and work together to find out what is important for everyone in tomorrow’s planning system.

Previous workshops in March-April 2013 engaged in a collaborative design process to identify and describe important system functions and goals for planning and building in Calgary. From this engagement work, we heard that defining roles and responsibilities, as well as identifying desired behaviours and working relationships, are important to achieving success in the future. As we work towards finalizing our draft System Outline to present to City Council in July 2013, the theme of Roles & Responsibilities will drive our May workshops. Feedback from earlier workshops noted that participants keen to dive into this topic and the discussion will be lively!

Workshops are free but registration-based – first come, first served – and more workshops will be added to accommodate any additional demand.

Each workshop is limited to the first 50 participants who register.

Our approach is to engage mixed groups of stakeholders in a series of questions and conversations in response to current best thinking as captured within our current system outline. We will facilitate this discussion, collect everyone’s ideas and perspectives, and focus on identifying common ground in response to each question.

Please note that these are public workshops, and that the proceedings may be noted, recorded, photographed and/or Tweeted by facilitators or participants. Workshop participant comments and feedback given to Transforming Planning will remain unattributed (anonymous) unless express permission is granted. Transforming Planning will also share what we heard from this workshop series among stakeholders once workshops are completed.

Transforming Planning

Transforming Planning is a collaborative partnership between stakeholders and City staff to design and deliver a high-performance planning system for Calgary.

Transforming Planning was launched in June 2012 by The City of Calgary’s Planning, Development & Assessment (PDA) department in response to a Council directive to undertake a broad-scale review of the planning process. As part of PDA’s “nextCITY” concept for delivering Calgary’s planning vision, Transforming Planning will engage City staff and stakeholders – industry, communities, citizens – to deliver a transformed planning system that will help build a vibrant, prosperous and sustainable city for everyone.

Your feedback and ideas on tomorrow's planning system are important. We invite you to participate in this unique process as veryfew cities in North America have attempted to re-envision and transform their planning system on this scale.
