Zizzo Strategy is hosting a one-day workshop at GLOBE week 2018 that will focus on risks, opportunities and responsibilities in a changing climate. The workshop will:

  • Provide an overview of the policy and market mechanisms aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change

  • Explore developing trends that may impact roles, responsibilities and expectations

  • Dive into scenario analysis and its pros, cons and practicalities

  • Link the above information to professional liability and corporate opportunities  

The aim of the workshop is to provide professionals and senior staff with tools to integrate climate change considerations into their decision-making and increase the resiliency of their company. 

Participants will leave the workshop not only with an enhanced understanding of their risks and opportunities, but also with practical strategies to address these issues within their organization.

Who Should Attend

This event is geared to business and industry professionals across all sectors and roles including engineers, accountants, finance, operations and senior management. If you would benefit from having clarity on what your actual climate change obligations and responsibilities are today and how your role and responsibilities may be changing in the near future, this one-day workshop is for you. Come prepared to participate in exercises that will give you a head start in meeting those obligations.

Agenda

Module 1 – State of Play for Climate Change Law, Liability and Reporting and your responsibilities

  • Basics for the day – what is climate change to you?

  • How major mechanisms used worldwide to reduce GHG emissions might impact your role

  • Using legal and policy drivers to adapt and build resilience  

  • Professional responsibility, liability and avoiding negligence

Module 2 – Developing Trends, Scenarios and Strategy

  • How expectations for climate disclosure and reporting are developing

  • Influence from shareholders and stakeholders on climate strategy and how it might affect you

  • A primer of climate change scenarios and why they are a hot topic


Instructors

Joanna Kyriazis, Policy Director, Zizzo Strategy Inc.

Joanna is a trained lawyer and policy advisor who combines her advocacy and scientific skills to identify risks and create innovative solutions. Her work focuses on global carbon policy, land-use and transportation planning, resilient cities and climate risk. Joanna previously practiced at a boutique law firm where she advised clients on emerging issues in climate change, energy and environmental law and policy. Prior to that, she practiced at a premier law firm in New York. Joanna graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a degree in Natural Resources (BSc) and obtained her law degree (JD) from the University of Toronto.

 

Joy Williams, Senior Advisor, Zizzo Strategy Inc.

Joy Williams brings a multi-disciplinary approach to climate change and other environmental, social and governance issues. She made the move from traditional engineering to environmental and climate change issues over 15 years ago and has since worked in government, policy, management and strategic consulting and the financial industry. Joy's approach to the complexity of these topics is to focus on what is relevant to her client's strategy and provide pragmatic advice to support their growth.
