Event description

Description

Are you a Muslim youth under the age of 30 and tired of getting stuck in traffic, getting passed by buses and skytrains on the way to work/school/leisure activities? Do you feel like transportation in Metro Vancouver could be safer, faster and more efficient for your neighbourhood and communities? Would you like to help in creating a vision for what transportation could look like in Metro Vancouver by 2050?

Translink is in the middle of creating a strategic plan for new roads, bike routes, Skytrain lines and bus services that are to be built over the next 30 years, and they would like your help in envisioning the future. This is your chance to dream big! Autonomous cars, gondolas, umbrella holders under every seat on trains/buses - anything goes. As a young person today, you will be paying for and using these transportation services more than anyone else.

With support from Translink, CityHive's Transportation Youth Advisory Council is hosting a Transportation 2050 dialogue for Muslim Youth living in Metro Vancouver. This focus group is part of a series of strategic engagements aimed at starting conversations on the future of transportation in Metro Vancouver to supplement the survey that is being run by Translink. Food and refreshments will be provided!

The purpose of this dialogue is to have a deeper conversation about the future of transportation in Metro Vancouver. At the dialogue we will explore questions such as:

  • What are some transportation challenges that Muslim youth face? How can we address them?

  • Where do you see yourself living in 2050? How can your transportation needs be met so that you are able to live where you want and still get around easily?

  • What do you want the future of Metro Vancouver's transportation system to look like?

  • What forms of transportation should be prioritized over the next 30 years?

Results and learnings shared during this event will also be shared with Translink in a report that will contribute to the Transport 2050 strategic plan on roads, transit and bikeways for the Metro Vancouver region for the next 30 years. This event is hosted as part of CityHive's Transportation Youth Advisory Council with support from Translink. Personal identifiers will not be shared with Translink. This event will be photographed, but your images will only be published and shared with your consent. Consent forms will be avialable at the time of the event.

You do not need a background in urban planning or transportation, only a passion for making Vancouver a better place to live, work and play. Please inform event organizers if you have any dietary restrictions, or have any accessibility needs.

This event takes place on the traditional, unceded, occupied territories of the Coast Salish peoples: the mi ce:p kʷətxʷiləm (Tsleil-Waututh), Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations.
