About this Event
The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Jodi Hall, a full-time professor in Doula Studies at Fanshawe College and an adjunct professor at the University of Western Ontraio. Her research interests include reproductive justice, trauma, social exclusion, sex work, ethics and criminality. Dr. Hall’s (jodihall.ca), unique combination of professional and practical experience gained in the gender-based violence community as a frontline worker and her academic research background in trauma has spurred a high demand for her workshops - aimed at informing a diverse array of professionals around the complex issue of trauma, and how to recognize and respond accordingly.

10:30 -10:45 a.m. Break
10:45-12:00 p.m. Vicarious Trauma Tools
The goal of the first part of the morning is to have participants leave with an understanding of:
· What are trauma and violence informed principles?
· What is the role of trauma and violence informed principles in education and community organizations?
· How does working from a trauma informed lens change expectations, assessments and how a classroom/youth program feels?
· How to respond to a disclosure of abuse, past or present.
· How to recognize and anticipate potential triggers.
· How to help navigate through triggers
After the break, Dr.Hall will discuss secondary (vicarious) trauma which can occur in helping professionals when they work with individuals who have experienced trauma. She will facilitate a conversation about tools such as debriefing, coping mechanisms, resiliency and supportive internal processes. Her goal is to make the expertise in the room visible and create homegrown solutions that work for our community.
