Event description

Description

Working in a youth justice profession can be a very rewarding career, yet working with survivors of trauma can create a state of tension and preoccupation of the trauma experiences described by clients in professionals often referred to as the “cost of caring”. This one-day foundational training workshop will review the early signs and symptoms of vicarious trauma and/or compassion fatigue. The workshop will discuss the impact of vicarious trauma on the erosion of professional boundaries and impact on the provision of trauma-informed care of clients. Participants will learn skills to develop therapeutic presence; best practice and evidence-based approaches for preventing and responding to vicarious trauma in an attachment informed manner.

The workshop will:

  • review personal and social techniques and strategies to increase resilience
  • identify and recognize organizational supports for professional effectiveness
  • identify resources to reduce compassion fatigue and increase resilience
  • assist participants to create a professional and personal care plan to minimize the emotional effects of working with trauma survivors

This one day session will be offered in Kingson on November 21, 2018 at the East Regional Office, Nelson Boardroom (11 Beechgrove Lane, Kingston K7M 9A6). The session will run from 8:30am - 4:00pm local time. There is no cost associated with this training. Please arrive early for sign-in. Sandwiches will be provided at the lunch break.
