Description

This six hour interactive workshop acknowledges the prevelence of trauma in the general patient population and how all health care professionals can maximize safety, build trust, give opportunities for choice and connection, as well build on the patient's strengths.

“Trauma is an experience that is emotionally painful, distressful or shocking, which often results in lasting mental and physical effects. Trauma involves an event (or repetitive events) and a reaction or response that includes an overwhelming experience of helplessness or powerlessness.” --Center for Addiction and Mental Health.

Multiple presenters with specialty knowledge in mental health and substance use will be leading participants through the trauma informed practice (TIP) concepts and definitions, neurobiology, early attachment theory, and assist participants to apply these concepts to practice through hands-on activities.

Who Should Attend: This workshop is open to all healthcare professionals who are interested in learning about TIP and practicing the concepts within a multidisciplinary team. Participants will receive a certificate of completion following the workshop.

Where: UBC Okanagan Campus- UNC 200 (Ballroom). Participants will rotate through 4 classrooms during this workshop.

Registration: Registration is NOT required for UBCO and OC nursing students who are registered in Nursing 239. Pre-registration is required for non-nursing students.
