Description

The purpose of the training is to

  • build trauma awareness
  • identify impacts of trauma
  • explore current research

The workshop will explore how social workers are impacted by trauma and how to mitigate the effects of working in trauma exposed environments. Participants will examine the key principles of Trauma-Informed Care: Safety, Choice, Collaboration, Trustworthiness & Empowerment, and how they can be applied to generalist/specialist social work settings.

Presenter

Tonya Grant MSW, RSW has 26 years of experience in the human services field working with children, youth, adults and families from diverse backgrounds. Tonya has been a social worker as a child protection worker in Lunenburg County and has worked as a clinical social worker in the areas of community mental health & addictions, family therapy, children’s inpatient mental health, complex case, clinical leadership. Tonya is trained in solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed practice, family systems therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Tonya uses strengths-based approaches and critical social work practice to collaborate with people and systems to explore their experiences, their environments and their relationships.
