Description

Level I Intensive Seminar

Observed & Experiential Integration

OEI is a treatment for psychological trauma that has been in discovery & development since 1994 by Audrey Cook, MPhil RCC and Dr. Rick Bradshaw, PhD RPsych. There have been three research studies demonstrating the effectiveness of this therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and anxiety, and this method has been used effectively in hundreds of thousands of hours of clinical treatment with individuals, couples, children, and adolescents. It has also been used to treat addictions, eating disorders, dissociative disorders, and issues involving performance.

Level I OEI training involves a 14-hour intensive 2-day seminar. Only the first 2 hours involves lecture and video demo. Almost 75% of this 2-day training is spent in small "fishbowls" (Trainee to Trainee ratio of 1:8). During this training, attendees spend time experiencing and practicing the skills as both "Clients" and as "Clinicans or Counsellors".

Skills learned in Level I seminars include the following:

  • Recognition & querying of “Intensity Markers” & “Conflict Markers” (verbal, paraverbal, & nonverbal behaviour cues). Checking for artifacts with conflict markers (furrowing of brow, look of surprise).

  • Explanation of “Core Trauma Symptoms” and “Dissociative Artifacts”. Learning OEI Switching to use when dissociative artefacts are seen (headaches, tingling in hands/face/feet, visual distortions, dizziness/drowsiness/loss of balance), and Release Points when core trauma symptoms are seen (bronchoconstriction, airway/throat constriction, nausea/stomach cramping).

  • Describing a first session with a client (eye dominance procedure, selection of trauma targets, detection & clearance of negative transference reactions, neuropsychology of PTSD, OEI Switching to lower emotional & physical intensity).

  • Use of OEI Sweeping to dissipate Dissociative Artefacts, & OEI Tracking for trauma targets.

The fee for this 2-day training includes a handout packet, and a USB with articles, forms, and a Client Handbook.

Interested individuals can find out more by going to: www.sightpsychology.com There are 11 short Q & A video clips, and there is a reference for a 68-page APA journal article re: history, development, neurobiology, theory, clinical applications, and case examples for OEI.
