A one-man version of Treasure Island is set to return to the dance hall at Craigdarroch Castle this spring, following a pandemic shortened debut run in March of 2020.
Actor Jason Stevens, known for his popular one-man productions of Charles Dickens’ 1843 classic, A Christmas Carol, , and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is set to bring Treasure Island back to the Castle , with performances on March 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and April 1 at 6:00 p.m. and 8 p.m.
One of the best-known adventure tales in western literature - Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 children’s classic, Treasure Island, is a fast-moving story of buccaneers and gold, treasure maps and stowaways, which will blast away audience’s winter cobwebs. Treasure Island has powerfully influenced how modern audiences think of pirates and is one of the most dramatized "coming of age" adventure stories of all time. Audiences will have the chance to hear this tall tale in the Castle ballroom, where Jason Stevens will bring Long John Silver, Ben Gunn, Black Dog and the other infamous characters to life as only he can.
For shows beginning at 6:00 p.m., doors open at 5:45 p.m., for 8:00 p.m. shows doors open at 7:45 p.m., seating on a first come, first served basis.
Treasure Island takes place in the Castle’s dance hall, located on the fourth floor (there are 87 steps and no elevator in the Castle).
COVD-19 Precautions are in place and masks are recommended when visiting Craigdarroch Castle. For more information on current precautions visit: Plan Your Visit
Please note: Performances are suitable for older children aged 10 and above. There are no special effects, props, lights or soundtrack. This is storytelling in its traditional form, as it would have been performed in 1883 when Treasure Island was first published. The performance is approximately one hour.

About the organizer
Craigdarroch Castle is a definitively Victorian experience. It is a shining example of a “bonanza castle” — massive houses built for entrepreneurs who became wealthy during the industrial age. In this case, the industrialist was Robert Dunsmuir, a Scottish immigrant who made his fortune from Vancouver Island coal.
