#TreatyEdCamp 4.0
Event Information
Description

Join us for the fourth annual #TreatyEdCamp, a full-day professional development opportunity! This free event is open to teachers, pre-service teachers, and the general public - anyone who is interested in learning more about the legacy of residential schools, Treaty Education, and the historical and contemporary implications of Treaty.
This year, we will kick off the day with a keynote from Erica Violet Lee, a two-spirit Nēhiyaw (Cree) writer and student from westside Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. An organizer with Idle No More and Indigenous Climate Action, she has a BA in political theory from the University of Saskatchewan and is now pursuing her master’s degree in the department of Social Justice Education at OISE, University of Toronto. Erica writes about navigating academia as a young Native woman on her blog, MoontimeWarrior.com.
As in past years, the rest of the day will feature sessions led by many awesome teachers who will share strategies, ideas, and resources related to the implementation of Treaty Education in classrooms as well as to the role of schools and educators in the work of reconciliation. This year’s event will also include sessions that address anti-oppressive education more generally, as well as sessions featuring presenters from community and activist organizations that will help attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and possibilities of decolonization and reconciliation. Additionally, the event will include a showcase, where attendees can explore and purchase books, web resources, Treaty maps, teacher guides, and more.
The event will also include an optional pre-conference on the evening of October 12th featuring comedian Ryan McMahon - details and registration at this link!
If you are interested in facilitating and/or sharing your experiences with Treaty Education, please email us at treatyedcamp@gmail.com!
Note: Bannock burgers (with both beef and veggie patties) will be available for purchase on the day of the event.
This event is sponsored and organized by UR S.T.A.R.S. (Students & Teachers Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppressive Society) and is made possible by support from the Faculty of Education, the Education Students Society, and The University of Regina Students' Union.
