Event description

Description

Did you know we are surrounded by renewable energy? Whether it's green transportation, energy efficient buildings or an urban farm, it's just a question of taking another look around. Back for a second year, join Ruth and Chris from SPEC's Energy & Transportation Committee in exploring a diverse array of renewable energy assets at Olympic Village and let's discuss how far down to road we are for a zero fossil fuels future.

Summer Tour Dates:

  • May 4 - Jane's Walk
  • June 15
  • July 13
  • August 17
  • September 7

All tours begin at 11am at the Olympic Village Canada Line skytrain station for a 90 minute free walk, ending at the Creekside Community Centre (1 Athletes Way, Vancouver).

If you have been on SPEC's Solar Panel tour and are hungry for more technology, or if you are interested in learning about passive design, LEED certified buildings, and wastewater thermal energy recovery, this tour is for you!

Our first tREX tour of the summer on May 4th will be a part of Jane's Walk. Jane’s Walk is a community-based approach to city building that uses citizen-led walking tours to make space for people to observe, reflect, share, question and re-imagine the places in which they live, work and play. They walk cities to honour and activate the ideas of Jane Jacobs. More about Jane's Walk.

Free or by donation. Suggested donation of $5. All donations will go to SPEC's Renewable Energy Climate Change Workshops. We held 50 workshops in the 2018/2019 school year and we'd love to reach more students!

About SPEC:

The Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC) is a non-profit, charitable, volunteer-driven organization, founded in 1969. As one of the oldest environmental non-profits in Canada, SPEC empowers local communities in the Lower Mainland to build a greener future through interactive programs and activities. Our mission is to provide our community with practical solutions for urban sustainability, with a vision to create a healthy, just and vibrant urban life that enhances local and global eco-systems.

Through our open education and outreach programs we provide our communities with the tools to build greener cities together. We work with citizens, industries and government agencies, putting our brains together to create a healthy environment we can call home.
