Great news! Trimble expert Matthias Stängel will be in our Richmond Hill office in February 2020 to deliver an exclusive training on eCognition Developer!

Students will learn about the core principles of data analysis within eCognition, ranging from data management to generating an automated analysis workflow. They will use the tools required for implementing knowledge-based, deep learning and template matching classification and feature extraction techniques in Trimble eCognition Developer software. This is a configuration-based software so contrary to the name, no software development or programming experience is required.

Computers will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own.


Topics covered will include:

  • Introduction to eCognition

  • Getting to know the eCognition Developer and its graphical user interface

  • Feature extraction based on knowledge-based classification

  • Feature extraction based on supervised classification approach

  • Data fusion, change detection and introduction to vector capabilities in eCognition

Matthias Stängel
eCognition Support & Training Manager, Geospatial
Matthias Stängel has been with Trimble for 2 years as a Support Engineer, leading the support and training for Trimble’s eCognition software. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany, as well as a Master's Degree (M. Sc.) in Applied Geoinformatics at the Paris Lodron University in Salzburg, Austria. During his professional career, he has focused on environmental monitoring using different remote sensing data sources and eCognition for analysis. Overall, Matthias has more than 9 years experience in the geospatial sector including software training and consulting to extract information, using eCognition and leveraging data fusion (RS data, airborne, UAV, point clouds, vectors, etc.) and OBIA capabilities, from earth data.
