Description

PLEASE NOTE: If you register for this July 25th Workshop, one admission to the July 26th Soil Health Field Day is included in your purchase. Therefore, you do not need to buy a ticket for July 26th, however we will need to know for planning purposes if you will in fact be attending the field day as well. We will contact you to confirm.

A workshop for learning about soil structure and biology and how to assess the health of the soil on your farm. There will be both classroom and field components so that participants will gain practical knowledge and experience which they can then take back and apply to their own operations.

Speakers are:

Dr. Jeff Schoenau

Professor and Ministry of Agriculture Strategic Research Chair

College of Agriculture and Bioresources

University of Saskatchewan

Dr. Schoenau's research interests include nutrient cycling and management, soil fertility and fertilizer use, plant nutrition, soil conservation, quality and land use, cropping systems, herbicide fate and interaction in soil. The focus of my research is to provide information and tools that can be used to best manage the soil fertility resource, thereby ensuring economic and environmentally sustainable use of inorganic and organic nutrients (mineral fertilizers, manures and other organic amendments) that enhance crop and livestock production. He was born in Saskatchewan, raised on the family farm near Central Butte, and completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees in the College of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. He continues to be involved in farming with his wife Lynne.
