In this session, Grant T. Smith (CPA, CA with Clearline Chartered Professional Accountants) will guide you through the business side of being a professional writer. Whether you’re a journalist, copy writer, freelance editor, or working on a best-selling novel, you’ll need to think about the business aspects of your practice.
Using a combination of exercises, lecture and class discussion, the session will cover:
- Revenue: we will discuss circumstances where revenue exists and even those where it is still being sought, ie. How to charge clients
- Expenses: What can you write off? Even if you didn’t make any money from your writing this year, there may still be expenses you can claim.
- GST: Should you register, and how?
- Budgeting and planning
